589's and ITP Wheels' performance decrease
#1
I am new to the sport and bought a new 04 660 grizzley and put 27" 589's with ITP wheels on it which I am very happy with my purchase. My brother bought the same with no tire and wheel upgrade in a limited eddition(color is great by the way). Our performance was identical until I changed wheels and tires. Now he smokes me/low end/top end/everywhere. I realize changing the tire size sacrifices performance, but is there a way to change it's performance. It seems like the clutching is not right. I want more power. Any suggestions? Thank you.

27" Tires are alot to turn I had 25"'s on My old 300 and it had a cam and a Pipe. A grizz would probably be better than stock with a Good Pipe and Jet Kit along with a K&N I would say.

I hate to be the bearer of bad new but I have the exact setup and have the exact same problem. The larger tire are a lot heavier than stock so your rotating mass has a huge increase. I believe that he itp set-up 10-20 lbs heavier than stock per wheel. The taller tires also changes your gearing. It gives you a higher ratio. I posted the exact same message a couple of nights ago and have been told the same info I passed on to you. I installed the clutch kit and it brought back my bottom end and mid range. It was really noticable in the mud and deep snow, it would keep the wheel speed up and back shift quicker to keep the engine in the proper rpm range. Get the clutch kit first and then the rest of the other stuff like a pipe and filter kit. The reason being is that the engine should be in the proper rpm range before it can utilize the rest of the items. So you are right when you say that the cluthing isn't right. With stock clutching I couldn't get the unit to wheely but after putting the clutch kit in it will do it with relative ease. Even with the clutch kit a stock Grizz will kill me but not as bad. Sorry if I'm a little long winded but I hate it when I don't get enough info on problems like this.

One last thing you might not be able to out accelerate you buddy, but get him in a nasty mud hole and you will be at the top of the food chain. Better traction and more ground clearance means that you will run circles around him in snow and mud

If you are talking about the highlifter one they are the same thing. I was told by a different member in the forum that the highlifter one is made by epi. The springs shown on highlifers webpage are all coloured the same as the epi so I think this info would be correct.
