Removing the choke
#1
I heard that if you remove the choke on a 4 stroke you can add a few horses, is that true? i have a raptor and i never ride it in the winter, so i dont really need any choke cuz it always fires up everytime without any choke. and if you can add horses by doing that.... how do you go about removing the choke

yea, i was riding with 2 guys on kfx400's and they said that they removed the choke and everything and it really added boost, but i dont know, might have just been blowin steam to make themselves look smart

It depends on the carb. The choke in a 400ex's stock carb blocks some air flow, even when the choke is disengauged. You can take it out to decrease turbulance in the carb. You can't do this to the Raptor's carb, be cause it has an enriching circut for the carb not something to "choke" back the air supply.

Those two kfx s have enricheners also, they were blowing smoke.
There is some truth to removing the chokes on street motors. Take a look at holley carbs for street use, and compare to a demon carb, The choke, and the surrounding "chimney" have been milled off. Its to increase the air flow. I cant see how it would work on a single carb on a quad....the intake diameter is the big restriction, leaving the choke on or taking it off, cant amount to much.
