Do you need an impact wrench to remove a front sprocket on a raptor?
#1
I purchased a 12 tooth front sprocket for my raptor yesterday and when I was buying it I was told that you have to have an impact wrench to remove the old one. Is there anythign else I should know about installing this thing?
Thanks

Unless they are doing something different compared to the banshee you should not need and air wrench. It shoule have a bending washer that you will need to bend straight so you can get it off. Besides that it should come off pretty easy.

I think they are only torqued down to 50ft lbs, so you wont need an impact wrench, just have someone press the rear brake. I posted the torque specs a while back, just do a search.

you dont need a impact wrech.. but makes it alot easier... just put in gear or leave chain on and the rear brake.. should work.. forget the socket size.. its 21 i think or 26 sumtin like that.. have one out int he shed..

I highly don't recommend to put it in gear, leave it out, especially on the Raptors. The tranny is weak enough as is and you could be putting too much stress on the tranny that way. Just sit on the quad, and put your foot on the brake while you put pressure on the nut to come off with good chain tension and you shouldn't have much probs, if you do, just find a bud to do the brake thing for you if you find that it's too hard by yourself. But once again, putting it in gear may make it easier on you, until your machine lurches ahead or you put a stress crack or even break a gear in the tranny before you know it, you have to change the tranny too! Don't take that chance, no matter how minute it may seem, it's a corner not worth cutting to get the job done right. The 12 tooth is one of the best mods on the raptor, you'll enjoy the difference!

the first time I had to make my 200lb brother stand on the foot brake while I strained to break it loose with a 4 foot cheater pipe............pulling the left side of the quad off of the ground.........
mine was did NOT want to come off.........
but now it is easy.........

I just changed my front sprocket to a 12 tooth also. Sometimes if a bolt is giving me a hard time I will tighten it first than try to take it off seems like it works easier. Thats what i did with my front sprocket and I put it in gear

I used an impact instead of getting some knucklebusters or stripping the nut. Mine was extremely tight. I sprayed it down with a product similar to wd-40 and let it sit overnight and I still had troubles with an impact on it.
