I have a 97 banshee that has had the foot guards removed and there are no nerfs on it... Should I replace the stock "guards" or just get nerfs? Any deals out there on new "take offs" or used nerfs?

Well, most nerf bars only protect you if your foot slips forward off the peg. The footguards protect your feet if the slip off the pegs backward. That is what usually happens to me, which can result in getiing your leg caught under a spinning tire. I liked the footguards when I had my Blaster. You can probably find some used ones cheaper than nerf bars.

No no no no!! Get the nerfs, way better!! They will protect you if you go off the back of the peg. Actually it depends on the kind you get I think. I had AC's on my Blaster and they were great. Get the nerfs

The stock foot gaurds can only hold up to so much abuse and will break after being whacked on by rider's heels or sticks and branches if you ride in the woods. Steel or alloy nerfs will hold up much better.

I run AC pro peg nerfs and haven't caught the rear tire. Even if you did, there is not enough room for your boot to slip between the rear tire and the nerf. (You do wear riding boots, yes?)

If you want both, DG makes a Banshee nerf that stock footguards will attach to.

Ebay and other auction sites usually have the stock foot guards for sale.

I would sell you mine, but the left guard is busted up and useless

I just broke my leg the stock ones serve a purpose by coming off a jump and sliping a peg running over my foot (very painful)
