grizzly 600 top speed?
I was just wondering if any one with a 99 grizzly could tell me how fast it will go. I just bought one and I can get it up to about 52-53 mph. Is this right? I guess I thought they were a little faster then that, didnt know if some thing was wrong with mine. Please let me know.

I have a 99' Grizzly and it goes in that range(50-53 mph). I though the same when i got mine but I dont think you need to go any faster if you trail ride like i do. The low end torque is better than having a high top end speed. As for your kodiak going that fast no way mine goes 43 tops.

I have a 2000 600 and I have had it up to 62-63 mphwhen it was stock. try taking the cover off the right hand side of the engine and take the nut off the shaft pull the clutch apart and check for flat spots on the 8 wheels that ride in the ramps,if so replace if not, clean and regrease, and reassemble. this should be done periodically anyways. they get really black in there fast. this should make a world of difference, it did on mine. and if you go w/ oversize tires you should look into an aftermarket cluctch kit. ie... EPI, OUTLAW or equiv. If the wheels cant ride freely all the way through the range then the different ratios cant be achieved affecting low end and top end I have been completely through this bike several times and have become quite familiar w/ it. have any more questions feel free to ask: viper

I have a 2001 Grizzly 600 and like Viper said, mine did 63-65mph when it was new. Now that it has aged a bit, I get about 10 mph less. I am going to have to try this maintence trick to try to get that 10 mph back. It only has 1200 miles on it, but I suppose a new belt wouldn't hurt. Both my brothers have 660's so I need every thing I can get. I use my Grizzly quite heavily for plowing, hunting and around the farm.
Even when it was new and would do 63-65 mph, it always seemed like it was revving out excessively. Really, I thought nothing of it and always just kept it taped. Now I see that some are clutching for a bit lower RPM (more engine load). Is theis yielding quicker accelleration and faster top end speeds?
This has been a great machine, with very few problems except for the starting issue that I have posted in another thread.

and another thing you might want to check is your valve clearance. there is two nuts on iether side of the head above the exh. pipes. these are the exh. valves. remove nut and adjust gap.set to .006 to .007". directly behind them is a single cover for access to the intake valves set these at .004 to .005" use feeler gage loosen lock nut and turn screw to adjust with gages between the valve and the rocker arm. and then lock nut back down.all these have o-rings which are usually good for several adjs. real easy, excellent results, probably the #1 thing you can do besides oil change, spark plug.clean air filter. to restore lost power!! i do it every 6 mos. and clean that air filter often. i was just clocked at 72 on mine, 11.5 to 1 wiseco webcam perf. cam pro circuit exh. epi clutch26"mudhawgs and some personal tweaks of my own "she will run raptors ragged"

I would say the first thing you should try is regreasing the clutch. I did it too my 660 and it was not hard at all, just alittle messy. If you go too www.totallyamaha.com and follow the links they have a page that show how to do it.
Good luck

If you have submerged your quad and got water in your belt drive it would be your primary pulley that needs serviced like someone else said........while servicing it also inspect and measure your belt width to make sure its up to par. If its not you need to install a new belt also.
