Default ok stupid question (porting)

this probably seems really stupid but i have been wondering what porting is. I have pretty good mechanical knowledge and can fix most things but i still dont know what porting is. thanks in advance

it's adjusting your 'port area' by size and or angles to make the engine flow better and 'on' at a certain point(eg low - mid, mid - top or overrev)

I just re-edited my post, retyped it for clarity, the initial response was kind of sloppy...sorry

Default ok stupid question (porting)

On a cylinder head '4 stroke' you have intake Port or ports and exhaust port or ports . The intake is where the fuel/air mixture enters the combustion chamber . The exhaust side is where the burnt fuel/air mixture exit's the engine . if you want more air/fuel to enter you need to make the ports bigger . You also want to control where the air/fuel go and how it acts as it enter the combustion chamber . So you shape and smooth certain areas . There is also work to be done in the comustion area of the head so that after the fuel/air mix passes the valve or valves it keep the fuel atomized and then spreads across the comustion area to begin flame propagation ==== BOOOOM ==== then you need to get it all out so exhaust porting is done .

Porting can be shaped for different styles of riding to create HP at different RPM ranges .
2 stroke porting is a hole nother ball game there are many different cylinder setups , port timeing , the number of ports per cylinder . upper angle , case porting the list goes on and on
But the same principle MORE AIR/FUEL = MORE H.P. if it's done right

always trust in Mores Law ( MORES BETTER )
