Default Raptor is cutting out / missing

Just want some input here before I take it to the stealership to have them look at it. Have a 01 Raptor and yesterday I was out on the dunes and it started cutting out. Noticed that the reverse light would come on when I was riding but the reverse light would not come on at the exact time when it would cut out. But it would come on and go out. So we unplugged the neutral switch cable out of the bottom of the engine and the problem seemed to go away. Is the reverse light some kind of trouble code or something? It is just fine with that neutral switch unplugged I just don't get my neutral light to come on when I am in it. Can any one shed any light on this for me?
