i read on an old topic, that there was some concern for the yfz 450 to completely change the engine to a 450 instead of a 439. what do u think about this, would they do something like that. and will there be anything different otherwise? i want one now, but want to wait if there is going to be any kind of major better improvements. i hear they are great now, no big probs. please report what u have heard or what u think will happen, thanks. also is there anyway i can get in touch with yamaha themselves like yamaha corporation or w/e to ask them this same question? thanks -rider1169

Nothing is in concrete yet and I haven't found any hard proof of a bump in displacement either.
I asked the Yamaha rep about that last week and his response was.......that alot of dealers had this same question, but he or no other sales rep have been given ANY information about the 2005 model YFZ 450s.

As knows said, there is nothing in stone. Most of the rumours that people are circulating are things that have been passed on throughout the forums.
Once again, i ask... Why bump displacement??? It would cause an increase in the cost of production because new cylinders and other materials would be needed. Leftovers from 04 would be changed over to replacement stock. Machines would have to be recalibrated, etc. All this to bump 11cc on the quickest production atv. Its not a smart business move, IMO.

It wouldn't take anything other than the YZ crank and a small modification to the center cases to make it a 450
The cylinder is the SAME cylinder used on the dirtbike. No all-new parts other than new center cases would be needed, and the center case will require nothing more than a modified mold of the original. Wouldn't cost anymore to bump it up to a 450 than it would cost for other models' small upgrade eah year.
