Best Quad for wife?
#1
I love yamaha and would love to stay with one for my wife but I am open to getting a good deal on another quad. What do you guys feel is the best deal on a smaller quad for her? I don't know anything about other builders like Honda. What is the best bang for the buck if I wanted to spend like 2k on one for her.

if she is an inexperienced rider,,,,,,,,i would say,,,as I usually do,,,,,a Polaris trailboss (larger, stable bike with an auto tranny,,,,nice plush starter bike),,,or a Suzuki z250 (a bit smaller with a auto shift tranny)
a used 2002 to stay in your budget

for $2k your gonna be looking at a Yamaha Warrior, Honda 300ex or something similar.
I like my 400ex for a wifes bike. I dont even mind riding it either which was a deciding factor in the purchase. For a decent used 400ex it will cost around $3k though.

My wife started off on a trailboss and within a year she hated it and was ready to move on. She always said it felt to heavy for her. She also had problems where it was wider than most quads it would get stuck on the ruts that other quads made. Long story short within a year she hated it.
I bought her a new Z when they came out and she absolutely loves it! It feels light, and is comfortable. I was worried that it would be to much bike for her, but she just has to use a little sense and not go wide open everywhere (basically not try to keep up with me LOL). I would suggest taking her to a few shops and letting her sit on a few and feel them. Once she decides what she likes then try to find a used one to stay as close as possible to your price range.
GOOD LUCK Because I know if you make the wrong choice she will let you know! LOL

If she has long legs...don't buy her a Warrior. I listened to my DH (Damned Hubby) instead of listening to my instincts and got a Warrior instead of a Z400 for me. Well, The Warrior doesn't do well in the dunes (my Daughter's Honda 250EX did better!), it was hard to shift the reverse lever back and forth when needed and the neutral is never to be found even though it has one. And it is too low sitting for me.
I rode out on my quad and rode back to camp riding the Z! (Our friends even commented about that to my hubby!) The Z was definitely easier to handle. When my DH (Dear Hubby) was straining to get the reverse unstuck (And he's not a small guy!), he said "That's enough reason right there to trade this #@$% in and get you a Z!" Good luck one your search.
(P.S. - I even got to ride the new YFZ450! Awesome! (But I'll still stick with a Z400)
(P.S.S. - Buying the wrong quad, yes, I did let my hubby know!
