Has anyone purchased jewelry off of ebay, specifically diamonds? If so, were you ripped off or pleased with what you got? I know this is off of forum topic, but I figured this was a good place to start my research. Thanks in advance!

I would be very careful with a purchase like that....I have bought a few things off ebay...the most costly being a pocket bike.
....The problem is that it's getting very hard for Ebay to monitor all the people selling bogus things.

I would only do a purchase like that in person.

be careful.

I am very cautious with my purchases off of ebay and I do alot of research before I buy. That is why I thought I would start with you all. I have read virtually all of the feedback from some diamond purchases and they are all positive. I realize that it could still be a scam, but avoiding the middleman with a purchase such as this can sure save a chunk of money.

Anyone who makes a purchase sight-unseen is taking a big risk. A picture on e-bay is not seeing and examining the item.
I haven't bought anything like diamonds, but I would have to do a lot of talking to the seller before I gave them money for something like that.

That is going to be my next step after I find someone who has ventured out and made such a purchase. If I do it all on a credit card, that will give me some protection. I need that warm and fuzzy feeling first though.

use escrow.com Its free and real easy. The way it works is you send your money to escrow.com. Then they tell the seller you made payment so he needs to ship. Once he gives them a shipping slip as well as you have about a day or 2 to inspect the product they give him the money. If hes not up for it then tell him to take a hike.

That is a good idea. Someone here at work also advised me to use a third party such as escrow to make a high dollar purchase...I still would like to find someone that has actually made such a purchase.

Escrow sounds great, but what if a person decides too send you a box full of small rocks? The escrow people got their shipping confirmetion. You are screwed at that point. As earlier stated, making a purchase sight-unseen is a big risk. Creck with your credit card company too see what they would do for you in case you were too get hosed. You may be surprised too find them saying "if you agreed too pay X amount for their product then our hands are tied". Good luck.
