crazy gas prices

Yeah, I just saw on the news last night G.W. or any other candidates wouldn't dare go up against an oil company to get thier prices down. Too much $. I'm tellin ya, a few pipe bombs in a few underground tanks in a few cities across America would get somebodies attention......It'll happen......you wait.....

Did anyone see the 60 Minutes interview with Bob Woodward, last night?
Hes the one writing GWB autobiography. He made the claim, that the Saudis and GWB have an arraignment, where just before the election, the saudis will increase production and lower prices to ensure GWB wins the election. The reason they are raising prices now, is that it makes it easier and more dramatic to lower prices later. These are facts, not opinions.

Blowing stations up in the US wouldn't do anything. It's a production problem. OPEC is closing down the pipe. And oil isn't coming out of Iraq like it was speculated it was going to (now THAT's a surprise). Go find the OPEC headquarters and start blowing that up if want something to blow up.
I work for an electrical contractor out here and we are seriously taking it in the shorts. We lost about $16,000 on wire on one job for a main feeder. Wire prices make gas prices seem tame. And pipe (EMT, and GRC) are like gold. We get a wire quote and it's good for that day, and one day only. It's tied to the price of copper which is through the roof. Add in gas prices (it takes a lot of gas to ship it.) and we get hosed.
The reason refined gas prices shoot up in relation to crude prices is that the stations need to replace their inventory. And they are slow to come down as they don't want to take it in the shorts on the downhill side.
Closest station to where I am is $2.099 for 87 with 10 cent increments per grade and #2 Diesel is selling at $2.239 (One Chevron is $2.499, but they are always insane on their diesel). The cheapest place I've been seeing is a Costco (like a Sam's Club for those who don't know what they are) at $1.999. May have gone up today. They were still closed when I came to work.
Fuel taxes around here are in the 50 cent range (We paid about $1.50 for red diesel (no excise taxes) a few weeks ago). I *think* federal excise is 18+ cents. The rest is state fuel, local fuel (Fresno county has a special fuel tax for roads) and local sales tax. Gas station pump or building usually has a little sticker with the amounts.
'Old Junior better get the body count down in Iraq. If it keeps up at this rate more people are going to start thinking Vietnam. I heard one ex-Green Berret officer say he expects us to be there for 5 years minimum. If we are there in another 4 years whoever is the encumbant (D or R) or encumbant-party doesn't get back in. And a puppet government doesn't stand a chance in that region.

the gas station i always go to while on my way to my riding area, charges about 71cents/litre, which is pretty nice, considering its about 2 - 4 cents cheaper than the city. Also premium(89) was 72.5 cents last time i was there.
