OK-Guys I know this is a dumb question but i need your help
I just purchased a yfz450 and i want it to know if it's safe to shift with out releasing the gas ?
Is it safe ?
Or i would be better shifting just like a normal manual transmisison car ?

One question pops into my mind.
Does the manual say or recommend you change gears at wide open throttle?
If not, DON"T!!!
You’re welcome to do it. I am sure the dealers would love to see you buying a new gearbox every couple of months.

I tend to let off the throttle a little bit ( but not all the way off ) give it just a touch of the clutch and shift. I dont pull the clutch all the way or let off the gas all the way, I use a happy medium

At this moment in the garage we have a 2003 banshee with about 50 hours on it torn down to the nuts. The tranny is pooched, the 6th gear pinion is missing some teeth, so if you want to know what happens when you don't shift properly, just ask my buddy who is now paying out his ****. not to be mean but I hope this helps

Exactly my point. Sometimes you have to be harsh with people, or they will try it and end up feeling very sorry they did.
If the bike has a clutch use it. If the motor was made to change gears without a clutch the manufacturer would tell you. Changing gears without the clutch is never good, no matter how you do it. You might get away with it for a long time, but you do it just a little bit wrong one day and you pay for it big time. Each time you flick the gears without the clutch you put extra strain on the whole motor. The piston, bearings, gears, everything gets a real nice whack when you change gears without the clutch.
To be honest, how much time do you save by not using the clutch? If done correctly, no time will be lost.

OK- I do use the clutch but my question was how do you release the throttle when you shift gears. I have driven nothing but manual transmission cars and i was wondering if it's exactly the same thing on an ATV.

Shift an atv just like a car. Same principle. Keep your throttle pinned WFO and shift (using the clutch). Most people can't shift a automobile wide open though IMO. Weak, uncoordinated little men.
