I just bought a new quad...last week. How often should I oil my chain?

AFTER you go riding, not before.
If you oil it before alot more mud and dirt will stick to it. Oil it after a ride or over night.

Is it critical to oil the chain after every ride?

not after every ride. Depends on the conditions. If it is going to be sitting for a while and i wont be using it then I usually lube it up. or if I put it away wet and muddy then I usually do.
