Default Tire Weight Comparison

I have purchased a set of 18x10x8 ITP HOLESHOT MXR 2 PLY=LIGHT and a set of KENDA KLAWS 18X10.5X9 4 PLY tires. I weighed both tires to see the difference; The Kenda Klaws were 3.5lbs. per tire heavier than the Holeshots. I could tell that the Klaws were heavier but to me 3.5lbs. per tire is a lot; thats 7 lbs. of added weight on the drive axle if you choose to use a set of Klaws over the Holeshots. Originaly I had purchased the Klaws First but once I received them they just felt too heavy to me compared to the 18 inch turf tamers I am using; so I ordered the Holeshots 2ply's to try instead(GLAD I DID). I do a lot of drag racing so saving weight(ecspecially on the drive axle) is a big deal to me and others may have been interested in hearing this comparison so I posted it. This was done on a set of digital scales and the results were the same after 3 seperate weigh in's. I'm at work right now and don't remember the exact weight of both but I''ll be glad to weigh them again when I get home and post the numbers for those who want to know. One more thing the Klaws are the taller tire between both the Holeshot and Klaws; a good bit taller for both to be 18 inchers. Slim

Default Tire Weight Comparison

Holeshots 18x10x8 MXR'S were 10.0lbs. a piece and the Klaw 18x10.5x9 MXR'S were 13.5LBS. a piece. If you go to ITP TIRES web site they are claiming 9.95 on the Holeshots, 11.65 on the Klaws, and 12.40 on the Razrs. They say 11.65 on the Klaws but I got 13.5 every time; I can't say the weight on the Razrs cause I hav'nt got any to weigh but the weight on the Klaws seem to be inaccurate with what I got; the weight on the Holeshots according to them were about dead on with what I got. Happy Reading, Slim

What are the difference between the 2 in side wall stiffness? I'm actually interested in the 20 in Klaws but, i'd still like to know. I believe if i get a tire w/ stiffer sidewalls than the stockers sidewalls which are soft as warm butter it will help sliding and, stability a ton!

The Klaws seem to have the stiffer sidewall just by feel. I've had the 20 inch Klaws before and they were very good to me. The Klaws are a very good tire; ecspecially for the price, perfromance, and quality. Slim

Slim, I noticed that you weighed to different size rims, I have learned that if you have two tires of equal diameter but different rim sizes the bigger rimmed tire will weight more because it has a bigger metal bead and a thicker sidewall to prevent pinch flats. This may not apply in every instance but it has been my experience in comparing holeshots and razrs that were 20-10-8 and 20-10-9.

You need to compare a 18-10-8 to a 18-10-8.

Default Tire Weight Comparison

The tires were weighed witout rims; just tire. I see what you are saying about the 9 inch having a thicker bead and thicker sidewall than an 8 inch tire; I was just posting what I had done for info. There was still a 3.5 lb. difference in the tires I compared; do you think that thicker sidewall and thicker bead you speak of on the 1810.5x9 Klaws weighs 1.85lbs. more than a 18x10.5x8 Klaw that weighs 11.65 quoted on ITP's web site. 1.85lbs. more seems like a lot more but I guess it could be that big of a difference. If I get a chance with some 18x10.5x8 Klaws I will check and see if its that big of a difference and let every one know. If anybody has this size tire please weigh it without the rim and let us know what the weight is. This has got me anxious to know. Thanks Slim

The biggest difference I have see was with holeshot mx 18-10-8 (8 inch rim) compared to fast trekkers 18-10-10 (10 inch rim).

Now keep in mind that the fast trekkers actuall measured 16.5 inches in size when fully inflated compared to the holeshot that measured 18.2.

When I weighted booth tires mounted off the rim I couldn't believe the difference, I don't remember the actual number but the difference was about 7 lbs per tire. Plus the bigger 10 inch wheels weighted more too.

And like a pound of spinning weight would be equivilant to like 7 pounds of weight dropped by other methods(frame). Right? rotational weight is a big factor.
