I had a 97 Wolverine and it was a great machine. Pipe it and rejet though it really makes a nice difference especially on mid-range. Also look into getting a Warn 424 setup -

The Wolverine is a very popular bike. Good price, relatively light, easy to put on racks or remove, adjustable shocks, the list goes on. Add a taller tire, aftermarket pipe , aftermarket intake (UMI), jet if needed (probably), and you got a "faster" machine. I ride with a few guys who have stockers, and they constantly spank me on the trail and jumps. Downsides: (very minor) center of gravity a tad high, exposed axle side in rear prone to bending under abuse, not the greatest fender protection from flying debris from tires. These are very minimal issues, I bet you're gonna love this bike. Kinda takes some body english to get a good donut going due to full time 4x4, but who cares? Less options means less parts to break! You can always add a front driveshaft disconnect later. All in all it's a great value and the design has been around for a while, meaning any bugs they might have had a pretty much taken care of. I'd take one!
