Grizzly 125
#1
I just bought my son a Grizzly 125 and was wondering if anyone else knows anything about them. I thought maybe it had a air restrictor or exaust restrictor, But it doesn't and my nephews Arctic Cat 90 two smoker seems to have more power. I know that the two strokes generally have more power, But I wanted a 4 stroke so I went to the 125. I find it hard to believe they expect a 16 year old to ride a quad of this size. Is there any mods that can be done to it?? I think it is the same engine that is in the breeze. It seems to be alright at top end , But lacks low end grunt.

It is a Breeze, Yamaha is just trying to capitalize on the Grizzly name by putting different plastic on an old model (the Breeze) and call it a Grizz 125. Just like the Raptor 80 is a Badger, a quad from the 80's, with some new plastic, no other changes. A belt drive 125 4 stroke is only so fast, but you can do the basic mods, like airbox, filter, jetting, pipe,to get more grunt out.

I am taking it back to the dealer today to get it looked at because I think something is wrong with the clutch. When you put it in gear you have to feather the gas to take up slop in the drivetrain or it clunks really load. I put it in gear and just barely gave it gas and it clunked and then went. It does it forward and backward and it feels like a lot of play in something. Maybe that is why it doesn't take off very well. I realize it is only going to go so fast and I didn't buy it to go fast, It just doesn't seem to go very well from a stop until you get it moving. The engine revs and it sounds like it is takeing off, But I can just about hold it back. I thought maybe the belt was slipping, But I don't smell anything. I could just be me too becayse it is hard to judge a 125 when you just got off a 660. Thanks for your help.

OK I am feeling pretty stupid now. The book says the little grizz has a belt. Is it inside the aluminum case ?? Forgive me for being such an idiot, But these are the first 4 wheelers I have owned. I have ridden them a lot just never owned them or worked on them.

Yup, the belt is in the aluminum case, did your dealer find the source of the clunking noise? that could have a lot to do with it not taking off right. when my son had his LT80, it was all I could do to hold it back, the tires would be spinning, and it had a lot of snap right off the line. I would definately have the clutch looked into.

I took it to the dealer and they said it was fine. It seems to be better after riding it awhile. After looking at it I found that it was kind of tough to push even when it was in neutral. Turns out the rear brakes were to tight.
