Default 02 trans failure !

I think I broke my 02 trans! Its not making any noise but the shifter wont move without ALOT of force. First gear works but I can't tell if any of the others do cause I can't move the shifter. No bang or noise , just the shifter got limp and I tryed to get it into nut. and the shifter got stiff. Any Ideas on whats wrong?

The problem may be inside the clutch cover. The shift lever may have come off the little wheel inside the clutch cover area. A long shot but a shot none the less. Could have bent a shift fork as well. I'd start on the clutch side first though.

Thanks I'll look there. Has this happend before? It actually feels like it may be a shift fork or somthing to the nature of which you speak.

If you push the shifter back into the motor it will move in some. It hits the inside of the clutch basket before it comes off that little wheel if I remember right. In theory it shouldn't be able to come off. I believe there was an incident here from someone, or I could just be repeating what someone had suggested they check. You have to take the clutch cover off to split the cases so, before you remove the motor from the frame and all I'd check the components on the clutch side where the shift star etc is. Hope it's a simple fix for you. Did you even get to check out the performance of your new cam and all before this happened?

Sounds like the shifthead could have broke. I had that happen once. At least it could be that. Hopefully not in the trans.

wshrdskin is right, your gonna have to pull the clutch cover. If you dont see anything apparent take the shift head or shift star off. behind it is a 12mm bolt. Use that to try and shift the quad though the gears. It would be best with the clutch pack out, turn the shaft while your trying to shift and see if you can get it to go.

Thanks guy's I'm gonna pull it apart on Friday night. What made me think it was not the gears was the fact that the counter shaft still turns freely.
