Hey i just bought a 1990 250 Moto 4. I think they only made Moto 4 in years 89-91, if i looked correctly. are you sure it is a 88? I have looked for parts for it. and its really hard to find b/c its so old. So if u find anymore information on it let me know. There should be a number on ur Frame of the ATV. Its like the serial # or somthing and u can call Yamaha and tell them the # and they will tell you everything about the Atv. Year, and etc.
Take it easy.

Thanks, Yes I'm sure it is a 88' 100% sure, and one other thing, there is a a lever on the engine block (right side) that can be adjusted to "increas" and Decrease" what is that? Is htat for clutch slippage? And the owners out there, how do you get it in reverse? I"m sorry if this is asking to much, But I can seem to find back brake pads, is there a site I can go to? Thanks

Haha this is great. 2 days ago i asked the same question about mine. somone said its somthing to do with the Clutch. Go to a yamaha Store and tell them the year and model to get the brakes. (I just replaced mine) Or near the left footpeg on the frame there is a vin# u can write that down and tell the yama people and they can order you the brakes. OK reverse on mine i think it has to be in Neutral then you put it into Low Gear then Shift into 1st then shift into neutral.... i think thats it. i still play with mine i dont have it memorized yet i only drove it 4 times since ive bought it. (4 days ago).
Hope this helps

yes they did make a moto4 in 88. it was a 200, not a 225. That adjustment shouldnt be played with. Turn it all the way to the left and when it starts to get hard turn it one whole turn to the right, and it should be good to go. (or you could just leave it alone)
Also to shift into rev. put it in 1st gear in any range (low or high) and shift back on the lever untill its all the way back (reverse).
