I went to clean my stock airfilter the other day and when I opened the box I noticed that the filter didn't look like it sealed to the intake hole very good. When I removed the filter, sure enough there's dirt past the filter. I AM PISSED! It looks like the foam edge that butts up to the hole is starting to deteriate. What kind of micky mouse crap is that....I've got a KN comming in friday. I guess I should take the carb apart and clean it real good. Any suggestions? Would it be that all I should do is drain the bowl?

Dirt cannot ordinarily enter your float bowl through the air intake; rather, contamination enters the float bowl through the tank and fuel lines.

BTW, although correcting your air cleaner connection is a very good idea, I doubt any serious damage resulted from the exposure you mentioned. Good luck!

No slap intended, TW!

Anyway, purging the float bowl now and then seems like good maintenance to me.

yeah I know it wasn't. It feels that way when you say something really silly and some one points it out to you...reagarding the dirt in the fuel via the air intake...I freaked out when I saw the dirt in the air intake passage. I would think, depending on how long you ride it with this condition, that it would be a pretty serious thing in terms of wear on the engine. As a matter of fact I would also think that even a brief period could do some serious damage. Can you expand a little on that please since you don't seem to think that. I know you assume that I'm not sucking in a lot dirt or riding for a long time w/o a good filter.

Pro-flow makes a adapter for the warrior that will bolt on to the air box and the the filter will bolt to the adapter. This was the first thing I did to my banshee and warrior..
The stock air filter set up on both of them suck..

I bet the K&N is going to slide in place just like the stock. I'll look for the one you mentioned. I've already ordered the $48.00 KN. I've got to have it to ride this weekend.

You MUST get the Pro flow airbox adapter, unless of course you want to find more dirt in your motor. I bought my banshee used, but it was basically new. I was installing pipes and sure enough, SAND! I headed down to the Yamaha shop and got the Pro Flow immediately, as you should. Plus it does give a slight horsepower gain. (Dyno runs say +4.7 hp with a K&N).

I'm not sure that it will or won't. But the foam filter that comes with it is a high quality filter. www.rockymountainatv.com sell's them for $89.00 you could call them and they might be able to tell you if they have a K\N filter that will fit it..
I have been running the foam filter on my warrior
and a K\N on the banshee and not had any problems with eaither one of them..
