Electrical fire
Well I had an interesting experience while riding the other day. My 2001 Kodiak just quit running completely and smoke started pouring out from under the seat. I pulled the seat off to find a nice little blaze going. After checking it over it seems the extra length of power cable for my winch had rubbed on the battery bracket, eventually shorting out on the metal. Anyways I got all the wires that were burned fixed up and replaced a bad fuse. Go to crank it over and it won't start. Headlights, dashlights, 4x4 switch, winch, everything works. It just won't get spark. I checked the volts coming out of the plug wire and there's very little showing up on the tester. I checked the coil and that is good. The dealer says he can't check the cdi box unless I bring him the whole fourwheeler which I'm sure will turn into a large bill. Any ideas on what to check?
Thanks,
Josh

I know the Rappys have that fuse on the solenoid (right under the seat)... Might want to see if the Kodiak has the same set up, because the Rappy wont crank if that fuse blows.
You might have already checked that, but thought I would mention it.
Another possibility is... as bad as I hate to say this is that it fried your CDI.

Man before I went 250 on OEM.. I would look at a Dyna or other aftermarket box. Get a few extra ponies and still only spend the same ??
Like RaptorOwner said... Hit e-bay.
Good luck I hope it ends up not being the CDI but it doesn't sound good. Maybe someone else will have anothter idea... I don't know how tough the coil is on those but it may have shorted it out... just another thougt.
