Default Starter problem or just electrical??

I have a bone stock 2002 raptor, here is the problem, While riding the other day I noticed that the starter just kept running. When I shut off the quad and tried to restart the battery was dead so I charged the battery and when I connected the the battery cables back up the starter started to turn again. NOw the key was in the "off" position as well as the thumb switch. Please help me figure this out.

Sounds like you've got one BIG SHORT going on, start looking over your wiring harness. I would not ride it untill you find the problem.

I would look at the starter solenoid, . You have power going directly from the battery to the starter motor. The solenoid is the only thing between the two.

Is there any chance this may be caused by a dirty ignition switch or thumb switch??
