Man hurt at Drag Races...

He is scheduled to go into surgery this eveining, and he is looking at a pretty long recovery time. I have always liked the guy and it just sucks because he is just like any one of us and he needed to be at work this morning. I hope he has some disability insurance as well.
You see something like that and then realize how quick it can happen. I know allot of us do not run heal guards and allot also have the rear fenders clipped, so those tires are just waiting to grab hold! He was wearing a pair of work boots, but I know for a fact that riding boots would have done no good. If anything it would have probably caused knee injuries or higher breaks. I would say he is actually pretty lucky considering he was pulled under at the upper 60's mph.
I hope he gets well soon!

Dang Mike, that sucks...... He'll be in our prayers. Just proves all competition can be dangerous. We all take our risks. I can completely relate to not being able to work because of hobby injuries. You definately don't get alot of sympathy from the boss. And insurance companies don't look to favorably upon motorized sport related injuries. Here's hoping he heals quickly.

WOW, yah that really sucks to see or even hear about another atv/race related injury. Hopefully he has a quicker then usual recovery, and will at least be back on the track. His incident will prolly make others look at things such as nerfs and heel guards a lil more closely, and may wake a few ppl up.
He will be in my prayers

Not having either leg has gotta be horrible. Someone mentioned heel guards. they said because of weight purposes. I understand that people get extreme to make these machines lighter and faster than anyone elses but comon. I see 350 pound guys trying to shed pounds on their atv. Now thats retarded. 5 pound heel guards isnt going to affect your time. Just doesnt make sense. well i guess I dont even understand drag ATV's. But either way its hard when someone gets injured in our sport. Makes you realize how dangerous and easy it is to get hurt. Be carefull!

If the guy is also going to be hurting financially, maybe we can take up a collection?
I'm buying the first pair of factory Raptor heel guards I can find. I could lose 30 lbs without looking "thin", 5 extra lbs is worth it after reading that story.

Knowning the guy, and his family, I think he will be fine finacially. But it should make everyone think about the possibilties and what can happen on the track, or anywhere for that matter. Stock heel guards are on ebay all the time for $10. I have thought several times about going ahead and getting a set to put back on mine, but haven't yet. I originally posted to make everyone aware of how fast something can happen, and how bad it can be. So everyone be careful no matter what kind of riding you do.
