Raptor burns oil, smokes,......smells bad too.
Just got back from our yearly trip to Northern Wisconsin for a few days of awesome trail riding. Put on 300 miles this year in three days. My Raptors oil was just changed before we left. During the ride I noticed that the oil level went down each day. Also, it seemed to get very dirty alot faster then normal. After awhile my buddies behind me said that my exhaust smelled and it made blue smoke from time to time. It burned about 1.5 quarts during the trip.
It starts and runs good, just like it did before. Should I have the compression checked? Is it time for new piston rings already? I estimate that my engine has over 100 hours on it. I have always used YAMALUBE 20W-40 and a BOSCH oil filter which I change often. Thanks.

Sounds like your rings are toast...1.5qrts is almost the raptor's entire oil capacity...my raptor burns A BIT of oil and I think thats normal, but 1.5 in 3 days is a lot. Do a compression check and report back to us

What is the stock comp. spec for a Raptor.? I can test it at work to see if it is low.....I bet it is. Too many rides on the stock crappy air filter setup (my bad) which will get replaced as well.
If I need to freshen up the top end, should I just replace the rings or go with a 11.1 Wiseco for around $110.00 I see on Ebay?

According to the Clymer manual, the compression is:
Standard 1250 kPa (181 psi)
Minimum 1050 kPa (152 psi)
Maximum 1350 kPa (196 psi)
But if you are going to start tearing into the motor, you might as well beef it up. I've heard good about the Ross and Wiseco pistons, just don't go too high on the compression of the piston, unless you want to fork out the extra money for the new rod.

Well....just ran a compression check.
cold engine: 80 psi
warm engine: 80psi
added oil to cylinder: 100+ psi
As you can see, very low. Thats why it smokes and burns oil so bad. Can't believe it runs as good as it does. What should I do? Tear it down and just replace the piston rings or just see what I need when I get it apart? Thanks.
