Default first three mods for a kodiak

i'll be buying an 04 or 05 kodiak within the next few weeks and was wondering what the first few mods should be. i'll be useing it for trail riding, some mud, hill climbing, and back road riding. fwiw i'm 6' 250.

i can't beleive i'm buying a yamaha.lol but it's ok, it's not a street bike.

edit: i should mention that i would like to mod for durability and toughness. i have a feeling i may kiss a few trees now and again.lol

Some people add "fender extenders" as I call them but for what I do I would probably rip them off on a tree or something. There is always tires. Mudlites, bearclaws, mudbugs, whatever. Some guys put snorkel kits in their kodiaks. I cant justify burying my machine that deep to buy a kit. Handwarmers and thumbwarmers are a popular choice for winter and fall. Hunt much? Warmers come in handy during hunting season. if someone tells you otherwise they're lying or dont want to admit they have them. There are endless mods that one can do. I suggest picking up a free brochure from Yamaha with all their parts and accessories. There are a lot of add on's one can do. A winch is a must.

buy a 450 and youll have no lack of power, unless you want a winch and tires for that deep mud but with the 450 you get diff lock.... kissing trees youll want a big brush gaurd/bumper, maybe the warn w/ lights and a winch mount...

The winch is a must...that would be the very first thing I would get if I got a kodiak or other nice size utility......a good bumper to take care of the things that get in your way...and some good lug tires if you like playing in the mud....If you go on a lot of long trips and stuff you also might think of a rack pack....just incase you like taking supplies, tools, gas, or whatever else you might need on the trails....
