2004 Raptor keeps stalling
#11
I've never seen the parking brake cause a raptor to stall. It just doesnt let it rev. And I thought when it was in N that it allowed the bike to rev... I've had mine off for almost two years now so I cant remember exactly.
It sounds like an air/fuel problem. Since you've covered the air part, I'd think you are either getting way too much or way too little gas. Also, check to make sure the idle is turned up high enough to keep the bike running when you have the choke off. If the idle is too low it will stall when you put the choke back in or let off the gas.

Let me throw my two cents in here. You said that you let it set about a month in your garage without starting it. It could be that the fuel gelled up in the carbs and now your pilot jet is clogged. You might change the plug and see what that does, if it doesnt help then you might be in for a little carb cleaning. Set aside a little time for this since you have to take off the front plastic, the gas tank and the rubber boot under the tank. Then you should be able to pop the carbs off and flip them over, remove the bowls and see if any nastienss is left in them of in the carb. remove the pilot jet, (the small one) and hold it up to see if you can see through it. It should be clean. If not get some carb cleaner and clean it, then go ahead and clean the main jet while you are in there. spray the carbs inside and out with the carb cleaneer and try to blow out the passageways. This should help you.
Hope you get it fixed as soon as possible.

I ended up having the carburator cleaned and rejetted. They said that some sand had on of the valves stuck closed. It runs fine after they cleaned it. Cool! heading out to the dunes again this weekend! Thanks for everyone's help.

I totally agree with starky . Think about it . if a piece of sand can get in there how much fine dirt is passing thru . Buy a pro-flow intake . if your worried about warranty yamaha sell them on the website
GYT=r filter andintake plate and get a prefilter cover .
Unless you want it to wear out so you can justify a big bore kit .

I used a screwdriver and set it up against the carb bowl and tapped it with a small hammer very lightly and it brought it back to life. I never had this problem with my 02 raptor.
