The words IF you have the power is key. A friend of mine had a 85 atc 250r slapped on a homemade wheelie bar and flat track tires the tallest gearset he could fit and drag raced it on a quarter mile strip. He run 90+ and he could have gone faster but couldnt find higher gears. If any of you guys ever went to Spokane Int. drag strip in late 80's early 90's you probably have seen him.

What a ride on a 3-wheeler! I wish I had been there!

Hi everyone --- For the fourth time, I will TRY to explain this to JY2276 !!! It takes just about twice the displacement for a 4 stroke to match a 2 stroke twin. Banshee - 350 CC's. For a 4 stroke to start to compare in speed and power, it needs to be about 2 times this. Thats equivalent of 700CC's to produce the same results. Well, the Raptor is 660cc , and is faster. Thats GOOD, not pathetic. If it was a 660 cc "2 stroke', then you would have a valid complaint...BUT ITS NOT...ok. 4strokes and 2strokes are not comparable in CC's versus Power. Its the very basics of math and common sense. Please learn this, the Raptor is Incredible not Pathetic. Besides, you would think that the Raptor would be sooooooo heavy with that size engine, but guess what...it aint. Its an incredible feat from Yamaha , I tip my glass to them. And I cant wait. Cheers...

If you can open up a banshee full throttle, you better hang on.

I am sure the Raptor will be a good quad because it is made by Yamaha but what I am trying to say if you have ever rode a Banshee you are not going to get that rush of power out of a 4-stroke engine. So just like dirtwheels said the Banshee is still going to be the most "thrilling" ride you can get and for the price you can't beat it. This quad has proven itself in the atv world to be very reliable and that is very important I am sure the Raptor will be the same but It hasn't showed anything yet except it keeps getting put off on being shipped. What's up with that?

jy,
your the one thats nuts. there is no way at all that a STOCK banshee will beat my STOCK ds. I have raced plenty of stock banshee's against people who know how to ride them and i have never lost. You think your so hard but the only way you could beat a stock ds is with a souped up banshee. hope i didnt hurt your feelings but a facts a fact. i know all you banshee owners would like to think that your quad is sooo much better but there not. and yes i have ridden banshees plenty of times. my buddy has one that is bored 60 over. they are nice quads but there is no way that a stock banshee could beat a stock ds.

I have to agree with Weibz. The Raptor is, right now, the defacto standard for a performance 4 stroke quad. Everything on it has been designed as a system to meet an expected performance level. Yamaha in no way designed it to be an ALL OUT race 4-stroke or it really could embarrass the banshee. Yamaha tried, and in my opinion did, create the most versatile quad on the market. It will effectively hill climb, do trails, and race. It has reverse. If their intent was purely aimed at the racing circuit why would it have reverse?
As far as the the fastest production quad...It has to be the Suzuki LT500. I mean..come on. That is a single cylinder 500CC 2-stroke. The weight to horsepower ratio has to be awesome. Even if the Banshee was a dual cylinder 500, the LT500 would get it off the line. Twin cylinder machines come into there own in the upper RPM. The rotating assembly is much heavier in a twin and requires more to get it moving. There is no reason the LT 500 would not be the fastest production quad. All things being equal, there is no substitute for CCs.

Hey, KY, where I ride in the dunes there is this girl who rides a Polaris Sport 400 and she embarrasses just about every single Banshee she races... It's pretty funny, actually. Why would say that Polaris Sports are really weak quads???
