Spark Plug Modification? (side gapping)
#1
Just curious if anybody knows anything about modifying sparkplugs. I forgot where i read about it, but I think its called "side gapping" or something like that. The theory is, you cut some material on the tip where the spark happens, and it exposes the spark better which allows a stronger and possibly hotter spark, and there might be other effects I dont remember. Anyway, does anybody use this right now or know anything about it?

Side gapping is an old race car mod, it works great, but does reduce the life span of the plug, as long as you check/replace your plugs more often, it should work fine.

Thx Vern, that was the website, and wolv, how much life does it take from the plug? Am I going to be replacing 2 times as often? More? Also what are the real benefits of this and is it even noticable? Aside from the plug life are there any bad effects on engine life, overheating, or anything like that?

To me, it seemed to have richened the burn out a bit, becuase it showed the normal plug, then the side gapped and the side gapped one was more tan..but overall seems like a good idea....would it provide any power increase do u think??
