Welding isn't hard. But make sure you do a couple practice things like welding some angle together. It's not hard, but making a good solid weld that looks good is a little difficult. I'm 13 and I can weld pretty good already.

Welding is hard. If you dont think so, talk to the guys that weld your buildings and other structures. How about the ones working on pipelines or nuke plants that have to have every inch of the welds x-rayed to make sure they are perfect. You can weld something pretty easily, its making sure it stays together thats the issue.
You are lucky the part can be replaced, your wallet and family probably are too. You could have had the engine bust loose when you were riding it and who knows what would have happened.
As a side note, always remember to unhook the battery and cdi when welding, or you'll be buying a new box.
