Yes it is correct.
That’s why they technical and user manual state you have to warm up the bike and let it stand for a little while before checking.
If you change the oil, make sure you fill it to the right level. Start the bike. Let it warm up. While it is warming up, loosen the little nut on the right side of the head. While idling, as soon as you loosen the nut oil will start seeping out. If this happens you know the oil pressure is good and you have oil flow to the highest part of the motor. Do not turn that screw out completely. Only looses it till the oil seeps out.
Let it cool down for a couple of minutes and when done, top up the oil to the right level.

raptor oil problem..... i think
Hey freeze, i just bought an 04 raptor and i suspected that it didnt have good oil pressure when i took my oil filter off because it didnt have any oil in it, so i put it back on and started it up and let it run for about 30 seconds and checked again but there was still no oil in it. So i just took the filter off and started it up for about 3 seconds and shut it off and no oil came out, then i saw where you said to loosen that bolt on the right side of the head, so i went out there and started it up and started loosening the bolt and no oil was seeping out so i loosened it until i could see the hole on the bolt where oil is supposed to come out but it was just blowing out air. (it was blowing air pretty hard if it had oil in front of the air it woulda shot a stream out) My oil tank is full (thats the only place where you can put oil right) and also i got a little to excited when riding a wheelie the other day and laid it back on the grab bar but i couldnt hit the brake to bring it back down and when it stopped it just fell over on its side and i heard something pop then i started looking for something broke and couldnt find anything. I also saw some1 talking about that screen in the bottom of the oil tank im gonna check that tomorrow but other than that do you have any ideas?? I would appreciate the help.

This is very serious. It seems you have some kind of blockage or air lock. Try and remove the oil pipe where it comes from the bottom of the oil reservoir and goes to the motor and see if the oil runs out if you remove it. If no oil comes out, try to remove the dip stick and see if it runs out. I am very concerned that the motor is taking a hammering with the lack of oil. It might have been damaged already.
1st priority is to make sure the oil is delivered from the reservoir to the motor. Gravity feed should make the oil flow. If not, find the blockage. Even if you have to remove the pipes from and to the motor to make sure there is no blockage in the oil flow.
2nd, when the flow is fine, put all the pipes back, drain all the oil from the motor and the reservoir and install a new oil filter.
3rd, I would open the valve covers and make sure to put some oil on the cam and rockers. Then remove the spark plug and add a few drops...DROPS only, not much, just to get some oil in the cylinder. Then with the valve covers open, try to but about 1 litre of oil down the motor if you can. This will give something to the oil pump to work with. Then put around 1 a litre of oil in the reservoir.
Try to crank it without the plug in for a few runs to see if the oil light goes off. It might not go off, but you know you have oil in there now. put the plug back on and start it up and let it idle. If you don’t get oil coming out the little screw on the side of the head, I would stop right there and have a dealer check it out for you.
Best of luck. Let me know what you find.

oooh boy, ok i removed the line from the bottom of the oil tank and engine and oil flows out of the tank and through the line just fine but on the screen i found some metal shavings (damn) but the guy i bought it from said it had a bent valve and he replaced it, i just wonder if it had more than a bent valve and the metal shavings are from that because even with no oil pressure it doesnt knock and the valvetrain isnt even making any noise, i am an ase certified tech on cars but i have never touched a raptor untill now and i am just not famaliar with where everything is at. Im just gonna have to order a service manual because taking it to a dealer is out of the question, i dont like other people workin on my vehicles, i will either fix it myself with my own two hands and a wrench or with a cigarette lighter on way or the other i will fix it. If you have any other ideas please let me know. oh does the oil pump have a pick up tube and a screen that picks up oil from the crankcase like a car or does it pull it straight out of the oil tank? Just seems funny how it is blowing air out that hard but no oil is coming out. If it does have a pick up tube and screen could it have fell or broke off from the flip over? Thanks for your help man i appreciate it>>

raptor oil problem..... i think
Well I figured it out, I decided to just take the clutch cover off and take a look at the oil pump and when I took it off I saw some metal flakes and plastic teeth in the bottom of my cover. I turned the clutch basket and the oil pump didnt turn, I tried to turn the oil pump by hand but it is locked up. I removed my clutch basket and there it was, teeth stripped off of the gear on the back of my clutch basket and the gear on my oil pump which are both plastic gears, why would someone have a plastic gear for the oil pump drive and a plastic gear for the oil pump? Maybe they ran out of metal or something, thats the only reason I would put a plastic gear on an oil pump. Anyway thats what I found and thanks for your help.

I agree with you on that one.....that is as stupid as the GM nylon timing gear teeth they had for a bit; they learned real quick, that was dumb!
