660R Engine History

I read earlier on this forum that the Raptor 660 engine came from a street bike. What did that bike look like? When did they produce it? Was the engine improved or detuned for the Raptor? Thanks

The engine comes from a streetbike that they stopped making a few years ago, but they only made the streetbike in europe. and they probably detuned it for the Raptor.

Thanks guys. That new motor looks fairly similar the current one. I definitely like the absense of cooling fins.

I have been watching that XT660R for about a year now. I think that the answer to the question of a cheap EFI for the raptor could come from that setup.
