hey guys i am new to this forum, but i am not new to atvs. i also belong to 3 other forums, highlifter, atvfrontier, atvnews and this one now. i have been riding dirt bikes snowmobiles and quads since i was 4 and i am 14 now. i love motors, and taking them apart and rebuilding them. i am in a trade school pretty soon and would like to become a mechanic of some sort. my dad is general contractor, and makes a good amount of money a year. around 60 65 grand a year, and i will work with him of the summer once in a while.

but anyways i am gonna be selling my quad and be getting a yamaha kodiak 450 4x4, and i would like to here your pros and cons on this machine, like how it handles and the power it has. and is it a reliable machine.

by the way check out my photos in my signature.

will you be getting an 05 with the IRS? overall the kodiak is a nice machine. it has plenty of power and although mine is fairly new i haven't had any problems. i think the best feature is the diff-lock. it is a short machine with a low seat height. i like the digital guages and fit and finish. i am pleased with the kodiak 450 and glad i made my purchase. the stock battery isn't that good, mine had to be replaced soon after i got it. also the seat tends to make you slide forward into the tank. i sat on my friend's suzuki eiger and that thing was comfortable. i'm sure if you do a search on kodiak 450 you will be able to get some good info.

I have the 04 I wanted the solid rear axle

I am an old Jeep guy...

The IRS should be nice for almost everything except hard rock crawling.
Again I am an old Jeep guy CJ's.

But since you can not get them new no more - IRS should be ok
can't beat the 450 Kodiak
