Since R1's make very little power at low RPM, I'd say you need to regear it much lower. It doesn't even sound like you're getting into the powerband.

What year R1?

I agree. At least not high in the power. I'd suspect that will come when he has more time on the quad and is more comfortable with all the power the R1 has to offer. I know the one person I saw with a R1 Raptor took off relativley slow and then was just, well, gone and never left second gear. That was at Pismo where you run I'd guess 600-800 feet.

Its not a R1 motor. Its a Yamaha FZR motor. Which they are close to the same. In stock form they put out 145hp. With my intake and exhaust I figure i'm around 155-160hp. It is geared low, you should see the rear sprocket, its about the size of a pizza. I'm going to drop some teeth in the front.

My +12 swingarm is from mp-racing. $500 for the swingarm, good price. It should let me launch in a much higher rpm. I was only dumping the clutch around 6-8 rpm, due to once I really launched it and about went over. And the whole drag race is only through 1-2 gears. I went into third while cruising around, BUT everything comes so fast at ya, it was easier to get hurt. I hit a 5ft. drop off while sliding on the brakes while in 3rd. Didn't feel to good, but didn't hurt anything.

Ok hope that covers everything.

Thanks again.

I hear ya, did the same thing on my Rap once but it tumbled next to me all the way down the dune. Be safe with that toy you got there. I too would like to cruise in 3rd gear on that beast as well!!! hehehehe
