thats why i said to not do it at a high rpm, shifting without the clutch will not harm the clutch unless u do it constantly, i also own a 01 raptor and do this almost every time i ride...dont worry about killing ur quad just go out there and learn stuff, the more ur paranoid about crashing or ruining ur quad the longer ur gonna stay unexperienced on it...

My 13 year old son rode a second gear wheelie all the way to the top of Thunder Hill at the St. Anthony Sand Dunes on his YFZ. I thought that was a pretty good trick. Here is a picture of what I think is Thunder Hill that I found on another forum members photo page.

When I ride wheelies I keep my foot on the rear brake, and if the front end starts to get too high I will apply a little rear brake without letting off the gas, then let off the brake when the front end comes back down to the balance point. Best I have done though is a first and second gear wheelie on my DS. My DS is geared way high though (it tops out at 83 mph), so second gear on my DS is actually a tad higher geared than third gear on my kids YFZ. My kid is much better at riding wheelies than I am.

Most I have gone is about 600ft.....ran out of room. I use the same technique as Outerlimit does with the rear brake.
