Good job Scooby!

Some may recall that shortly after the Raptor came out, there was a topic about it's top speed. I took the gear ratios, tire size and etc. and came up with figures very close to what you have for a top speed.

Now if the magazines are saying that it could pull 2 or 3 gears higher, then you would think that it could pull at least to 8000 rpm in 5th gear. The Banshee is geared even higher than the Raptor according to the spec sheet, but from what I gather, it doesn't actually turn as many R's in high gear as the Raptor does. Could this be correct?

I doublechecked scooby's numbers from the website he listed and came up with a top speed of 92 mph @ 9000 rpm in last gear, so his numbers appear accurate. I used the following formula:
Speed at 9000 rpm = 9000 rounds/minute x 60 minutes/hour x 20 inch diameter tire x 3.14159 (pi) x (1/2.088)(reduction ratio #1) x (1/3.076) (reduction #2) x (1/.904) (final gear ratio) x (1 ft/12 inches) x (1 mile/5280 feet) = 92 mph in last gear.

If you plug in 7000 rpm in the formula, you come up with 71.6 mph, so it appears that the Raptor is only able to reach 7000 rpm in last gear (assuming no tire slippage). It may be that the H.P. tapers off past this point and limits the top speed. I haven't seen a dyno chart to verify.

Well lets see. The Banshee and the Raptor in the latest test rides on a short drag, just getting it into top gear, the Banshee wins, in a long drag race, the Raptor wins (on pavement). I know damn well, my DS will out run a stock banshee, but the jist of the matter. My Bombardier was rated at a top speed of 74 miles per hour. I call BS, I know it will run faster than that because I run close to a modified Banshee and his top speed was 84 paced by an automobile. I am up there somewhere. I still believe that YAMAHA is claiming a lower MPH than what the Raptor can do for liability. You get a parent wanting to buy their spoiled child an atv, and they want a sport bike (Raptor), is it better to say, well the Raptor is just a little bit faster than a banshee and sounds more tame because it is a 4 stroke, or say that it will do in excess of 90 miles per hour and just because it does not sound as fast does not mean it is slower.

In conclusion, Banshee stated 65=72 Bombardier 74=83-84 Raptor 74=90+???????

I will wait to see.

34 mph in 1st gear. That just seems a little high to me. I have owned many quads, banshees, 500 quadracers, 250r's, and not to mention three wheelers, and 34 in first gear just sounds a little high to me. I think whoever made up that chart is a little high also

What motive would DirtWheels and other mags have to underate the speed? Supposedly in the latest DW, they say the Raptor tops out around 72 mph. Do you think Yahama gives them one that is limited in some way?

There is the same motive. Liability. It is better to understate and be pleasantly suprised. I would consider a Raptor, once I see one and know what it will do. I bought the DS because all the reviews saying how fast it was....I jumped from a polaris Express 300 to a DS650. Night and day of course. I had been riding a Banshee though that had been modified some. I have recently been told by my dealer that my DS's Valves have been too tight since new, causing a backfire and it about threw the mechanic off today when he was riding it. Come on Raptors, do not disappoint me.
