Cam, Pipe and Piston for warrior
#1
i have a 2001 warrior. i need more power but i am not willing to spend crazy amounts on strokers and such. i was thinking the alba cam kit with the .450" lift cam, titanium valve spring kit, and JE piston. i would also throw on the alba pipe and down the road an oil cooler and new clutch. questions: what compression is the JE piston? how will the gains be with the kit? think i can top out around 75mph with the right gearing? easy install? can i run pump gas with the kit? it will not be a problem occassionally running a mix of super and 110octane. i want suggestions on whether or not i am goin down the right road and if i should do another kit or what is the best bang for my buck?

In my opinion, the .450 lift cam is way too much for an otherwise stock motor, even with your Valves and Piston. The Warrior is only a 2 valve motor, and unless you're doing head work or a big bore, getting a higher lift cam will most likely actually hurt performance getting too much air into a otherwise stock motor even with a pipe.
Sorry, don't mean to rain on your parade.
75 mph is doubtfull,
You'll need to run premium for sure, 110 octane not needed most likely for New York riding.
If you really want to mod the motor at a modest budget, may I suggest the .390 lift cam or the .430 Powroll offeres.
High compression piston too, but head work is where its at to get the most flow out of the motor.
Or, save the $800-1000 bucks you'll spend on all this, and put that money toward a newer true high performance sport quad. Sell your Warrior for say $3500, and the grand you're spending on hop up parts makes that $4500 in your pocket, to put towards a newer machine of your choosing.
Just my 3 cents worth. Been there, built that. But I really suggest the whole new quad route not only for power, but better suspension too.

Heapster is right. Save your money. I put Tons of cash into my warrior and it did make it faster and it handles pretty good but you will never get the power outta that outdated technology your lookin for. If ya didnt live in NY id let you ride the POS hell my buddys is in mint and he has tons of cash in it and same thing. he wants sompin else. they are fun bikes for trails. Mine was a nightmere when i started it. I had the wrist pin retainer clip pop out and the piston was smakin the head and scoure the cylinder good on the first rebuild. and then i went bigger. but the raptor is quicker in reverse. lol

Yeah, inflation, thats it.........I say I've got 3 cents worth of experience because I've got first hand knowledge about this topic.
Warriors are great great quads. Loved mine stock, and even more with the Powroll big bore stroker kit.
I could hang with a 400ex, but against any of the newer generation quads, the dated design suspension and lower power output would just get blown away.
Leave the 2001 warrior stock, and it'll still be running like a champ in 2011 ten years from now.
Tune what you already have. Put a pipe on it and better air filter to get it to breathe, maybe a .390 cam, but leave the rest alone.
PM me with your email addy if you want to see what a thrown rod punching 2 big holes in your lower crank case looks like.
Turned my $3500 built warrior into a $1500 rolling chassis in an instant.
