Default Axle oil on 04 kodiak.

I just bought an 04 kodiak 450, has about 140 miles on it now. I went for about a 30 mile ride today and when i got back i could smell gear oil. so i took off the seat to see if i could find anything wrong and there was oil coming out the vent tube above the eingine air intake. I just wondered if this is normal, or if it was just over full. it has about 16 hours on it now and it just started doing this. NE suggestions?

Remove the filler caps, on the front and rear diff and check the level. It should be to the bottom of the hole. If it was overfilled, some would end up being puked out.

This is a common thing with Kodiaks. I have a 2003 400 and it did the same thing. I just routed my overflow hoses to the back of the bike, this will solve the problem. The oil will not all leak out either so you don't have to worry about that.

So does it lose enough to keep checking the level? Or should i just not worry about it at all?

I would check it at part of normal maintenance.... mine does the same thing, I've been checking it since that started like a month after I got the bike, and its fine over a year later
