I respect this Yamaha owner greatly for saying this. thanks not being an a$$ to honda owners. I don't dissrespect Yamaha owners "just because they own a Yamaha"......... Seems to childish to me and I have more of a brain to come up with something better to b!tch about. LOL, thanks again.

I didn't have to make mine a 686 to compete. As a stocker (including pipe, k&N, and proper jetting), the only things touching my raptor were banshees and Baja X's. No YFZ 450 ever got close. Now that my engine work is done, I only have to worry about modifieds. I think way to much credit is given to the 450's concerning dominance in all-terrain areas. Their value lies in their manuvering capabilities on the mx track (where they do rule superior). As far as drag, desert, and all around; they are out of their element. Thats my $0.02 anyway.

Your raptor is out of its element in the drag racing department as well, unless its the raptor with the r1 engine swap. Id love to see you take your raptor to an open class drag full of stroked banshees and 250r's....As far as drags go, if its a 4-stroke, then it's out of its element 90% of the time...There are rare cases like huge swapping jobs...but other than that, 4-strokes can't compete in the straight line w/ 2-strokes. And all around? The Raptor isn't exactly a great all around bike. If I owned one, it'd have to be a 727, built strictly for the dunes...that's the only place its worth anything. IOP, the rappy is too tipsy for hardcore desert riding... Nothing against it, its an awesome duner...but there are many instances in which it's out of its element as well. I don't claim to be faster than a raptor...every once in a while you come up on a pretty nice built one...but they arent perfect

I know..thats what I said

banshee>raptor for drags
Raptor>lots of quads for duning

I only posted because he was insinuating that a YFZ is not a well suited drag bike, but somehow his 686 is..Not the case. Neither are drag bikes, obviously. 2 quads, built for 2 different things

YFZBlu,

I don't know what kind of races you have been running but one trip to the Atoka drag strip (ASDA certified) will prove you wrong. I race down there occasionally and 90% of the quads there are four stroke. Including Bombardiers and raptors with NOS or turbos that would make most banshees tuck tail. I have done very well on my bike in the past but haven't had it down there since my most recent engine work. The low end torque makes the raptor a serious competitor in a true drag race which incorporates staged lights.

Yes, you can nos or turbo your rappy and make it scream. But just remember that you can do the same thing to a 2-stroke, and it'll respond much better. ie....Your raptor is a 686...ok, lets go bore a banshee to 390 or a 410...not only will it be cheaper, but when you start playing with the engine in that degree, they WILL have problems. and the shee, lt500, 250r, will all be cheaper to rebuild...there's a reason 2-strokes are the king of drags. more power for less money, easy to fix. Its simple. For the price at which you bought and bored your Raptor, I could built a crazy fast banshee that would beat you in a straight line guaranteed
