Default warrior mid range sputter

I have a 1998 warrior that is giving me a sputter just coming on to mid range. If I give it more gas it clears or feather the clutch it seems to clear and run fine. I took carburator apart and cleaned and it is still there. I took spark plug out and it seems to be burning rich (black). could it be a plugged air filter which is a k&n. (I didn't have time to try). PLEASE HELP>

hey it could be the float pin in the carb. Take it to a shop they will be able to verify then bye the piece and look on yamaha's website for the schematic drawings

Do not take your machine to the Stealer, i mean dealer.

When you tore down the carb did you:
~remove all rubber
~remove the floats
~unscrew everything that would unscrew
~Spray it and all arteries with B12
~use compressed air

How long have you had this machine. How long has it been doing it? Depending on this answer, you will know if you need to rejet.

Clean your airfilter. They make a bigger differance than you would imagine.

It is not my machine. I do some work out of garage and I've had this machine here for 2 weeks for various issues. This is the last issue b/4 it goes back to owner. He said it started doing it last winter. I have not cleaned filter yet. This is one of those bikes that previous owner fooled around with everything. This is why I have it to straighten out. Yes I did take carb all apart and used carb cleaner and compressed air. I set air screw out 2 turns. One other thing, you are absolutly correct about dealers. That word isn't even in my vocabulary. This is why I have 5 other jobs lined up. I need to get this one on its way.

Also, throwing in a new spark plug is a good idea.

Tear down the carb agian, use B12. Let is all dry too. Good luck. Keep us updated.

I have found the problem. previouse owner must have changed main jet and when putting back together he did not put the washer between the jet and seat. This caused seat to raise alittle with caused an over rich condition. I got lucky, this is a very small washer. I guess my eyes are ok after all.
Thanks for everyones input.

A dealer would have said carb is no good and sold someone (not me) a new carb for a few hundred.
