Raptor Engine Clatter

Default Raptor Engine Clatter

I just installed a 686 kit with a stage 1 cam. I am getting a clatter from the area of the cylinder.

I can't figure out what it is with out pulling it all down again. Anybody ever have this problem? Any suggestions?

Is it a clatter of the valves with teh new cam? Mine clicks a bit but thats normal.. is ur jetting good?

I am hoping it's the clatter of the valves. I set the lash to yamaha's spec intstead of hot cams to see if it quieted dowm. It didn't make much of a difference.

What is your valve lash set at?

Jetted at 165/170...Dynojet needles...open airbox...ported...full exhaust. It runs great.

are you certian your cam gear bolt are tight, i have done that before just got them finger tight and forgot to go back and finish it untill I already had it all back together, and it clattered like what you are describing.

Masterraptor, what do you have into the motor? I was just asking because I was jetting mine right now for the billet adapter with out the airbox, K&N, and the Eseries slip on and was trying to get an idea on what I should start with. It really threw me off though when I looked at your jetting and warwgn's jettiing. I know he is running the 686, but even if you are too, why are your jets so much bigger?

I'm at just over 5000Ft, and I am still in the process of getting the jets dialed in, I have been messing aroud but I got to fix the oneway before I can do more!!

It's 686, 11:1, ported, stage 1 cam, big gun full exhaust, K&N Pro with no airbox lid, dyojet kit.

When you remove the air box lid, the jet size really needs to jump up because the air box chokes the flow bigtime.

I am running the main jets at 160/165 for 6000ft, 165/170 for sea level. My needle is in the middle position, but I think it needs to be leaned a position or two.

I'm at 12:1 and stage 2 cam, I plan on goin up on the jets when I can start it again, I broke it in with 165/170 and it ran great on the top but the plug was black, but I have messed with the pilots and needles since so like I said still got more work to do!

165-170 is on the lean side for your set-up at sea level...IMO. A lean condition means a hotter running cylinder...which facilitates DETONATION if you are not running higher octane fuel.

I was wondering if 165-170 is lean at sea level. My plug is white. But, it sputters like it's rich in the mid range.


Lean the needle setting?
