The default is set to notify you when someone replies to a thread because it's better for the forum members. For example, let's say you make a post about something you're really intersted in and you posted it 6 months ago and nobody has participated on the topic in 5 months. Then some expert comes in and replies to you with some really good info...and you would never know it if you didn't check the forum daily (and still might not know it) or didn't receive the email notifications.

Instead of shutting the email notifications off, a better solution is to set up a rule in your email software that routes those emails to their own folder. Then you can glance at the folder once in a while and delete the emails. Its not a big deal and takes just a couple of seconds.

But if you really don't want to know if someone responds to one of your messages, then change the option in your profile setting.

i can totally understand its usefullness..
