Default How much benefit from cam mods, yfz450

Does anyone know how much of a benefit I will get out of cam mods on my yfz450? Is it worth it? Also, is there much more to it than changing out the cams? Does anything need to be done with the valves or anything else? Any input is greatly appreciated.

It's free just try it and see all you have to do is retard the exhaust cam 1 tooth. I PM you some good site that show how to do it

It's good for about a quad and a half length in a 300ft drag race...

The cam mod picks up the top end a bit, but I have heard that the overall rideability suffers some. One other mod is to pick up an Eddie Sanders Racing (ESR) airbox eliminator kit, it replaces the box and uses an aluminum tube to snake around the frame, and is much less restrictive than the airbox plastic tube (lift your seat and look at it). That deal is like 75 bucks and it will open up your breathing & give a noticeable improvement.

I hear the head is so good from the factory you can mess it up trying to change the portwork. Heck, just put nitrous on it.

i agree with Mr. Shady.

with the cam you will gain top end but lose some low end and it does make your ride a little more sketchy

I think this may depend on your set up...if you have an exhaust and intake that really boosts bottom end, I don't think you'd notice as much as a top end oriented set up. You may actually benefit more from it by moving some of that bottom end up the RPM range a little.

I appreciate the input. I've seen the airbox eliminator kits, but mine gets filthy now after just a ride or two. How often do those filters have to be changed? Also, are you then trapped into buying only the ESR filters? Can those filters be cleaned? I just ordered several small pre-filters. I was going to drill several holes into the air box and add these pre-filters. It will add some air flow, but I would like to shove some more down it's throat.
