Everyone recommending oil changes early is excellent advice but most people are guessing their hours. Call SenDec at 585-425-3390 and get an hour meter for your new ride. About $43 shipped. I put one on when my Raptor was new. Get your new skid plates ordered too!

The quad is a lot better looking in person compared to the Pictures on their website. Something else that I noticed about the Special Edition is the Headlights, they have a "blue tint" When the other 05 models dont. I was not aware of this till I got it.

I have a question about my first Oil Change. Yamaha doesnt call for the first maint until after 20 hours. Is it safe to continue breaking in my raptor up to 20 hours w/o making the first oil change? or should i change it somewhere in the middle?

Some people have told me it isnt important to change it until their recommended time, just wanted to know if I am getting misinformation or not.

Thanks
i woiuld suggest this for break in.. i used it and it works great.

check.. it

it makes sense also.

Not at all. A quart of oil costs a few bucks. An oil change costs about 10-15. you will have the biggest build up of shavings in the first few hours as the gears and other components are deburred. Good idea to change the filter the first time around too. This will ensure a clean engine and much less wear from stray metal shards.

Pinhead, I agree. I always have lived by "break it in how you're gonna drive it" and it hasn't failed yet. My first ride on my Raptor was a 10 mile road ride with alot of accelleration and decelleration with a few WOT bursts thrown in. It purrs like a kitten a 1 1/2 years later.

I like this quote from the site pinhead linked to:

An additional factor that you may not have realized, is that the person at the dealership who set up your bike probably blasted your brand new bike pretty hard on the "test run". So, without realizing it, that adrenaline crazed set - up mechanic actually did you a huge favor !!

Sweet yeah.. it totally makes sense to break it in like u would drive it.. that doesnt mean full out full throttle down teh drag strip the day u get it but dont hesitate take it on a mountain run and just ride it normall then once things are broken in a bit get the valves adjusted and break it in some more.. lol yeah that quote on the "test" ride going full throttle i guarrantee that thats what they do especially on sport quads..

Curious.. I have a stock exhuast just sitting around full thing pipe and headers.. used it like 2 times then got aftermarket.. is there any use for it? can it fit on other quads?? ? anything/ also anyone got a stock bumper thats not beat up .. mines kinda trashed.. also...

waht are some small things u can do to your bike to make it look alot better? (im talking like what things polish up good(and what to use) and what things look better painted. or removed.. that kinda things anyone know?

You need to save it and mount it on the wall as an art object.

I have all kind of weird stuff hanging around.

my raptor must be a freak of nature then......cause I haven't had the first problem with it........
yea, we got a few of those runnin aorund..... god musta helped in their building.... but on the average, u do spend more time fixin it that ridin it

Well once you learn to maintain your quad, then you'll be able to ride it without problems.
