I just picked up a real clean mint condition used 2000 Kodiak 400cc 4x4.........Mostly to be used around the ranch for chores, trail riding and rock/log crawling, no mudding for me.
Several questions for you seasoned year 2000 or newer style Kodiak owners.
1) Is an aftermarket clutch kit a good idea? Something that may hook up harder/quicker?
2) I don't want or need 27" tires, but the 25" stockers are darn near worn out. New Tire suggestions? 589's or? Is 26" a good way to go without losing too much low end? I'd like a slightly more aggressive tread, but not a full-on mud tire.
3) When de-accelerating, there is a slight hum/whine coming from the clutch/belt area, is this normal?
4) While I like the quiet hush of the stock exhaust, what FULL exhaust systems are out there for them? White Bro's E-series or similar? Egads that header pipe is small; leave it installed as it's stainless steel, or go just a slip on silencer only?
Any other weak areas that may need to be addressed? I'm aware of the water pump drain issue, but anything else I should be aware of?
Is a different speedo kit or other later year Yamaha options available for this year quad?
Thanks in advance from a happy new Kodiak owner, this is my 5th yamaha quad, (my last 4x4 was a Big Bear). Different kind of fun rides verses the other go fast sport quad realm.

Some new tires I'm considering for the Kodiak too are the Maxxis All-trak, or the GBC Mud Shark.........
I'm looking for a more square shoulder tires for better handling over balloon tire that roll under during cornering, or a big lugged mud tire like a 589 which isn't what I want.........
thanks for any input.
