Prepping... help...

Okay.. Im preparing to go to the dunes for the first time in a long time.. i just got my raptor back from the shop and i dont want anything else to go wrong.. so i have some questions..
Okay..
When the engine is running i can hear a clicking (im pretty sure its the valves) but is this normal for the valves to make a clicking sound when the open and close .. motor doesnt vibrate and seems to run strong..
also
Adjusting the clutch.. whats the best way to do it and how do you know when its good? thanks

Depends on how bad the clicking is.. Yes they can make noise but you don't want them slapping like crazy either. Its one of those things that you have to hear in person or just take the time and check/ adjust them.
The clutch... What I aways to is take about half to 3/4 adjustment out (screw it about half way in) on the clutch pertch. Then adjust it down on the case to give me about a 1/4 inch of play up on the perch. Then take about half that play up by screwing the adjustment back out. This is how I do it and then keep an eye as you ride on the play if it gets to be to much then re adjust or if you notice it start to tighten up then re adjust. There may be a better way to do this... maybe someone else knows but that is my 2cents on it!

If its that noticable I would say it needs adjusted. Its not that hard you need a feeler guage from the local NAPA (or other auto store). If you haven't adjusted the valves on something before I wouldn't suggest doing it yourself. May want to find someone to show you how the first time.

Yeah makes sense. thats what i was leaning towards also..
suggestions on this...
When i was jetted wrong i ddint feel like my 686 was bringing power so i dropped the front sproket to a 12 now first gear seams to sputter(now that its jetted right) it seems like there is too much power for second gear.. but i cant do 2nd gear starts on aspalt.. would going back to a 13 tooth be a good suggestion? or what?

For drag racing I always like to launch 2nd... There is some people that perfer 1st launches... And I guess it depends on how far you are racing. I would lean toward this... a 12/(42-44) for 2nd launches, and a 15/(38-40) for 1st gear launchs. And note that the later is AIRPLANE gears LOL Its hard to back up and you will do 60 in 2nd LOL...
