I am contemplating buying a 1987 Banshee that had a 420 kit installed by Trinity in 1996. What is the durability of this mod in the woods/trail riding? Any experiences or pointers on what to look for on this quad would be appreciated.

My buddy has the 420 long rod kit in his 98 'Shee.
The thing it crazy to ride! It really smokes my '99 banshee.
When going down a gravel road, you can shift as fast as you can, and as soon as you do, it's all ready R'ed up for the next gear!!!

As for duribility, I really can't tell you about the long term. His trinity job is only 4 months old. In that time he hasn't had any problems. All I can really say is that the word of mouth I've heard about trinity is that Customer Service sucks (i found this to be 100% true) and that they make good, reliable motors.

***BTW... The 420 kit is a high rev kit. Most of the power gain in at the top. This makes for a poor woods racer (lottsa clutch). If you really want to scream through the woods, get a 2-1 carb kit with a big single carb (which my friend's has, good setup) and a 2-1 Pipe from dyno port or motofast... That will give you the better lower end power, and great mid range power.

I want to say one thing about the previous statement about the 420 being a high reving kit. The 420 LONG rod kit is made for high revs, the 420 regular rod is for lower and more mid range power, but it together with a MX port job, and the thing makes goobs of power everywhere... trust me.. I KNOW! As far as how long it will last, I have no idea, mines only a couple months old.

Hey. I'm looking to hop up my '99 Banshee. Can anyone tell me what to expect to pay for the 420 regular rod kit from start to finish, including any necessary mods that are not included in the kit? I have stock carbs, jetted with FMF Gold Series pipes. Will I be able to use these if I rejet? Thanks.

I use stock carbs... but it really needs a set of aftermarkets to get enough fuel to the motor.

Cost on the 420 Regular Rod kit is $700 from trinity racing, and you can expect to pay about 50 to 70 in shipping depend on where you live.

I wouldn't to this kit without going to an after market head, trinity will sell you one at $209 if you do it at the same time as you do the big bore. You'll need to rejet, some decent pipes, etc. I also port and polished the cylnders, that was anohter 425, and A timing plate is a good thing, thats another 100 or so.

Also remember you're going to go thru clutches, brakes and chains ALOT faster, so be prepared to spend some more money keeping it running.

I also have to run race gas.. but they have different sized domes that don't need it.

The 420 LR kit me friend got ended up costing about $2200 (Two Thousand Two Hundred incase you thought it was a typo). This also included replacing the crank (his was bent.) Also, he doesn't use an aftermarket head. Trinity just shaved a ton off his stock one. With the setup he has (Trinity Stage IV single carb manifold, 33mm? single carb, carbon fiber reeds, 420 LR kit, and FMF Fatty Gold Series Pipes) Trinity estimated him @ ~75 Horsepower. Quite a jump from ~ 30-35 stock! Oh... BTW, they also told him that regular 92-93 octane gas isn't good enough for the compression he has. Now we both run 114 octane racing fuel.

I have a 96 Banshee with a 420 long rod kit from Trinity, it has a stage 4 head, stage 4 pipes/silencers, MX
porting, light-weight piston, lightened flywheel, welded cranks, CV carb kit, KnN filter, FMF torque reeds,a Hinson clutch basket, heavy duty clutch kit, shift mod, and runs on 110 octane fuel. I've had this kit for 2 years and ride 3-4 times a week and race 30-40 times a year and it is still running strong, the performance is unreal, I have yet to be pulled by any bike that wasnt a purpose built dragster or hillshooter, it is estimated to put out 70-75 HP, total cost 3000.00, I brought my bike to them so I paid a little extra to take out and put in the motor the bike has more than enough power for any kind of racing, justs needs slight gearing changes for woods running if you cant carry enough speed and momentum through the slower parts of the course.
