Default raptor 686 cost

just wondering what i should plan on spending if i do a 686 kit. when i do the kit, do most kits include top end and lower end or just top end???? trying to get some rough idea's on what i should expect. where have you guys gone to buy your kits? craycraft wants $1635 for the top end on a 686 but would not include the lower end, that price was just for the kit not install. thanks for any hjelp guys. craycraft wasnt a bad deal i thought?!

The Craycraft Signature 686 kit is a good deal, compare the cost of top shelf builders to top shelf builders. There are only a handful of well-known Raptor motor builders and only one or two that have high marks in all categories (performance, cost, turnaround time, customer service, reliability). The jury is out on whether or not you need a new rod with a 686 kit, more problems trace to weak pistons, ultra-lean jetting, and/or improper bore clearances than out-and-out rod failure. I put 40 gallons of VP race fuel through a CR Signature 686 MX Raptor on the stock rod and sold the motor to a guy that races XC. He won his first race on my motor. 40 gallons may not seem like much but MX and XC racing is not gentle on motors. Stay away from the JE pistons, too many of them have cracked around the pin bosses.

If you are going to money for a new rod, send the whole motor to a reputable Raptor motor builder. In addition to splitting the case/install labor, the crank and rod should be balanced. Replacing the rod costs much more than $250 for the part. If you're going into it that deep, let someone that knows Raptor motors put it all together. You'll pay more to have a reputable builder do it but you'll only have to cry once.

I just got my pump gas, stock valve, stock carb, stock rod Craycraft 686 running this week. After only a fue hours of brake in it was on to the dyno to put down an impressive 54 hp on the stock tires. The difference is unbelivable and it still pulls right off Idle. Call bob and talk to him. He can set you up with a package that works for your Raptor and your wallet.

and while your at it get a L&A design oneway bearing, it will save you time later. As for the motor you gan shop aroung and get all the parts for under 600 the main cost is machine work. The port and polish of the head is where you will spend some bucks, and you can build it yourself it's not hard at all, just need basic tools!!! I went from a stock raptor to a 686 with full exhaust, filter. jet kit, everything needed and it only cost me 1099.00 total. But I still need to get a new oneway bearing.
