First of all i would like to know if the 250R would beat a lt250R in a race? I know the banshee would. I keep hearing that the banshee has real bad steering, but actually how bad is it.
I mean if its really freaking bad why would you want it in the first place. Is there any way to fix that? And what pipe will give me the most bottom end for a banshee? I want something to smoke my friends LT250R so if the Honda250R can do then that might be the best choice.
I just want to beat him enough so he knows he's beat reall bad. Cause he says his is the fastest thing around.
How good is the turning radius on a banshee like how many feet. I just need enough turning radius to turn a 90 degree corner. And i can take it wide if needed. Any help is great!!!!
P.S. 2-strokes rule!!!!!!!!!!!

well if you are racing somewhat on a track forget about the two cylinders cause everyone should know that the banshee is nothing or a couple of mods on the 250r your keeping up with the banshee and beating the lt or be stupid buy a banshee and let it break down like something over heating or busting a head gasket well hell just buy a 87-88 tecate that thing stock will keep up with anything

Thats what everybody says UNTIL they ride a banshee. More than twice the engine of a 250r, its like saying that an xr100 would beat an xr200.

I have raced my 99 Banshee for the last year and ½. I have handed it down to my wife so I could build a race ready 250r.

I have beaten almost every quad on the track one time or another. Then again almost every type of quad has beaten me at one time or another. In the local pits, on a makeshift track, I raced two dirt bikes and a 250r. I placed between the bikes and ahead of the R. Actually would have won, but the R could not make a turn and I ran into the back of him.

On the MX tracks with my Banshee, I tend to stay to the outside. For a few reasons. First is the steering. I can not just hammer into the turns like the smaller quads. I tend to understeer really bad. The other reason is speed and bumps. The inside lines usually get whooped out real bad. I use the Banshee “flaws” to it’s advantage. By staying to the outside, I can keep up my speed and hit less bumps, which means that I am less tired.

Make sure you invest in a steering dampner. I have a Denton for both machines, and it makes a HUGE difference with the bumps.

As far as pipes, I have the Paul Turners Mid Range pipes and Fat Boy silencers. These gave me all the low end I need. I went (from stock) shifting 2 or 3 times on the straights to only shifting once with the new pipes. These things start pulling from the bottom and continue to pull harder all the way to the top. For dunes and sand, I think the Mid Range pipes would not be that good. The top feels kind of flat, but that may be from the hard pulling from the bottom.

As far as beating your friend on the 250R, it is possible, but it all depends on the rider. Practice and get to know you machine.

My last race on the Banshee, I was flying. I took 3rd overall. I felt really comfortable and smooth. Now the only mods I have are pipes and dampner. Then the next race, I took my 250r out for it’s first race. While it ran like poop (carb adjustments needed) I was still far off the pace for the race. It all depends on whether the rider knows his quad.

On a MX track, equal riders on each quad (Banshee, 250R) the 250R would win, but when are riders equal?

If you mod the 250r a lot it will beat him depending on how many mods he has. The trx 250r is also better on jumps than the banshee. Banshees dont have any lowend. But it also depends where you want to beat him on the track or in a drag a banshee would kill it in a drag. I would have to say overall a R is better. Just my thoughts.

I don't mean to hurt 250r lovers or anything, there's no doubt honda had it together when they made it, but for the price of an 89 250r you can have a 96 or 97 banshee. Maybe it's just me, but I personally would go with the newer machine. The difference in 7 years of wear can be huge. You can learn to ride a banshee, it just takes time to get to know your bike, like he said. That's just my opinion. I know the top racers are running 250rs, but they have the money to run brand new everything. I don't.

Later,

jason
