Raptor Starter Clunks
#1
I know there is problems with the one way bearing on the 2001 raptors. I hear that the starter spins but the engine doesn't turn over.
I have two buddies with 02 Raptors and they clunk and grind when turning over. Sounds bad...but they start. Is this just a bad gear, or is a complete starter kit with a gear and bearing needed to fix?
Any 03 and newer raptors have this problem? My 02 has as many or more hours and I haven't had a starter problem.

thats what i would think also
tell them to put it in nut. when starting and also pull in the clutch.. thats your preventative maint..
I still have my stock one way bearing its in good shape i switched to a L&A one way and gear

Pardon me for jumping in here, but I'd like to ask a question and it may (or may not) be related.
A friend of mine is looking for a used Raptor, we went to see one today, it's in mint condition by the look, it's a 2002.
It starts really well without any noises, run smooth as silk, but when we shut it down, it does a single 'CLUNK'. A real
sharp Clunk as if someone would give it a hammer blow somewhere on the base. We started it a couple of time after that, no noise on startup, runs smooth, but that single 'CLUNK' everytime we put the key to OFF.
Anyone have a clue on this? Is it a big problem on the rise? Someone out there has a Raptor doing this??
Thanks in advance!

ONce again sounds like the one way bearing is going out.. check into ripper racing they sell the l&a one way.. costs 250 with gear.. and that would be the only problem talk him down 500 bucks tell him you will need to get the one way bearing replaced and do it.

I am using the 2 o-ring fix like they mentioned on Raptortranny.com and it is working real good. I looked at my starter sprag and it was still in good shape just the little spring that holds everything together was totally shot. I also found a much stronger 0-ring that will work but I found it after everything was put together.

sounds like the starter clutch .mine went out ,the thing kicked backward every time you tried to start it then finally wouldnt start . its on the flywheel side took a rookie mechanic (me) about three hours and
paid around 120.00 for parts
