I would check to see what condition the clutch is in, if it is still working, and how much oil he has in the crank case.

can you describe EXACTLY what happens in as much detail as you can? It would really help me find a solution to the problem, thanks

thanks for your time

when the bike is started the bike seems like it is in neutral, when you pull the clutch put in gear nothing.when it is turned off you can shift up or down like it is going into gear but it will go more than six clicks some local boy thinks it might be a bent shifting fork??

1.) the clutch isn't disengaging
2.) the shift forks are bent/siezed
3.) gears are sticking

That is what i think is wrong with your buddy's blaster. But that is just me

If it is the forks then it was probably caused my overhaul on the transmission.

But here is what my manual says:

1.)Shift pedal broken
2.)clutch not disengaging
3.)Shift drum binding
4.)gears stuck on shaft
5.)shift mechanism pawls broken or worn
6.)pawl spring broken

number 6 from my manual sounds pretty likely too. It says if the pawl spring is broken then it would cause sporadic shift operation. Solution: replace spring
