Raptor 686- Will this put to much strain on rod?
#1
i want to bore my bike to a 686 with a high-comp. wiseco piston. Can this be done on the stock bore, and will it affect the connecting rod, or will i be better off with just a high comp piston on the stock bore? Also, ho wmuch will i have to change my jetting with a hotcam stg.1 as whell.? thanks!

11:1 wouldnt be terrible, but I'd still replace the rod.
Stage 1 hotcam is an easy install and all you should have to do is up the mains one size and tweak your mix screws. If you were on the rich side before you may not have to change the mains.

Depends on what your wrist pin collar on the rod looks like.......Haven't seen an 01 or 02 rod yet that isn't gnarred and worn on the right side. and if your gonna go that far, you might opt for a CP piston or a Ross instead...IMO..But opinions are like a$$holes...everybody has one and they usually all stink.

Check out my page, you will see what a stock rod does after you have a 690 kit installed. It lasted about 6 months before it went thru my piston and case.
Also if you want, I am building my recently newly built 690 to a ??? and will have a cylinder jug and Ross piston left over. PM me if your interested.

Ya...the cases have to be split...and since your there...ya might as well have everything balanced for the new rod depending on the piston that is used....I'm guessing at about 5 or 6 hundred bucks to have a reputable company do it

How do the rods typically fail? Do they break from too high RPM? Or do they just fatigue from increased loads and just break someday when your cruising around?
Or, do they wear out the crank or wrist pin Journal and start knocking?
